Buzz work can be completed when students are absent, they go to their To Do list, any assignments without a grade should be completed.

Computer Science encompasses far more than just coding, and CS Discoveries will provide students with opportunities to explore the many facets of CS, both in terms of how they are personally relevant as well as how they impact society.

Attendance: It is VERY important that you attend class daily. Each lesson builds on the next, and almost all work is done in class time. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you have missed (message a friend, contact me on Remind/email) and complete as much as possible online from home. I will have a “What did I miss” file with any papers that need to be completed.

1. As stated in the Student Planner, homework is expected to be completed on time and is due at the start of the class period, unless specified in a student’s IEP or 504 plan. Policy of 2 days to complete absent assignments
Unit 1 - Problem Solving
Unit 1 is a highly interactive and collaborative introduction to the field of computer science, as framed within the broader pursuit of solving problems. Through a series of puzzles, challenges, and real world scenarios, students are introduced to a problem solving process that they will return to repeatedly throughout the course. Students then learn how computers input, output, store, and process information to help humans solve problems. The unit concludes with students designing an application that helps solve a problem of their choosing.
Unit 2 Animations and Games
In Unit 3, you’ll build on your coding experience as you program animations, interactive art, and games in Game Lab. The unit starts off with simple shapes and builds up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, using the same programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. In the final project, you’ll develop a personalized, interactive program.
Unit 3 Physical Computing
Unit 6 explores the role of hardware platforms in computing and how different sensors can provide more effective input and output than the traditional keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Using App Lab and Adafruit’s Circuit Playground, you’ll develop programs that utilize the same hardware inputs and outputs that you see in the smart devices, looking at how a simple rough prototype can lead to a finished product. The unit concludes with a design challenge to use the Circuit Playground as the basis for an innovation of your own design.
